Years ago, printers used a technique to mold piping-hot metal into clean, readable lines of text. This hot type revolutionized newsprint and helped give readers a view into the world around them. Today’s version of hot type still brings the world to the reader, but in a decidedly different manner.

A story is no longer just confined to text. Our modern society is constantly changing, and with it is multimedia to compliment the new ways we consume information. Hot Type now meets a new set of demands: novelty and innovation. It brings the message to the reader through a hodgepodge of mediums but still delivering it with the clarity of the hot type of yesterday.

As students, we embraced Hot Type. We played with it and used it to explore the field of journalism. What resulted was our telling the stories of other students in journalism and their experiences in this evolving world of new media.
